No Longer Mute

We finally got around to picking up a bluetooth headset for the PS3 today. This means that for online gaming we can actually speak and hear whoever we're playing with. I look forward to release of Rock Band 2 (which will hopefully have voice chat enabled) so that if we're playing online, we can at last say "For God's sake, please, no more Enter The Sandman, we've done this song four times already..."

That'll be a good day.

Oh Yeah, About That Fire

I was wondering what all that was about when, a couple of nights ago, we heard what sounded like really loud fire crackers going off in the distance. At first the Wife speculated that it might be people having outdoor sex against the garage door a couple of houses over, but I didn't think sheet metal had that much bass to it when banged against.

Oh well, at least the casualties were kept to a minimum. Pretty amazing considering an entire propane facility turned into a literal series of fireballs.

Nerdgasm Of Epic Proportions

The Yin-Yang of nerd-dom is now complete. The first side was done online back in 2003. Now, the final side is sure to make the pants of Trekkies the world over explode with... enthusiasm now that their fantasies are about to come true.

I'm Home Moment #4856

It was very weird today to be sitting in our favorite diner, munching on a burger and hearing the radio go off about the Olympics and the first day of the event. Mostly because the Wife's eyes kind of bugged out upon hearing the results and realized that her new home country is one that actually stands a legitimate chance of bringing home an Olympic medal, something that is essentially an impossibility for Singapore due to its tinier population and almost total apathy towards athleticism.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens when she becomes a citizen and realizes that during elections she can actually vote for more than one party.

Awards & Networking

Today we went down to the Toronto Reference Library to take in the 4th annual Doug Wright Awards, which is basically a new award given out to Canadian artists and cartoonists. The inductee into the "Giants of the North" hall o' fame was Lynn Johnston, better known for her enduring news strip For Better or For Worse. It's nice to be living in a country again where people have extraordinary talent and actually get recognized for it.

We also bought a new router for our home. I love this thing. It was actually cheaper than our old router, but is specifically built for wired internet connections. It seemed like our previous router was dying on us, as we were experiencing sporadic internet connections, and when we asked our service provider about it, according to their logs, the connection to our home was stable the entire time. When we got the new router up and running, it was like a revelation. The PS3, which previously kicked off every PC in the house off the internet anytime it tried to connect, suddenly did so without bullying the other computers. Moreover, it did not mysteriously disconnect every time I put in a new game, nor did it crap out on us just because we happened to move to new menu for selecting songs while playing online for games like Rock Band. In other words, it looks like most of our minor nitpicks with the PS3 and its voracious yet finicky appetite for the internet can be blamed on our router, which was actually a wireless router and seemed to object strongly to not being used in such a fashion.

I love our new router. It's the Bees Knees.

Back To Articles

That time of the month again to start cranking out more GameAxis articles.

Also, we have now seen an early preview of the ad for the Liquid City comic anthology which lists all the big names that will be appearing in the comic. We, apparently, fall under the category "And others."
